Abstract

The article analyzes Lithuania’s demographic development in the period 1944–1989 and identifies its factors and results. It focuses on the statistical expression of demographic changes. Based on archival sources, the article verifies certain data on the population in the post-war period established in the Lithuanian historiography, updates the quantitative indicators of natural and mechanical population growth and determines their influence on ethnic changes.
