Abstract

Today, the positive impact of nature on human well-being and quality of life is recognized, and the integration of natural complexes into spatial planning is being pursued accordingly. It is recognized that the man-made urban environment should exist in harmony with the natural environment. In terms of land management, this means developing forests, green spaces and gardens while maintaining a balance between the urban and natural environment. Thus, the human relationship with nature is the basis of the biophilia hypothesis, and when extended in the context of biophilic planning, one should speak of the design and replication of natural structures in land use. This understanding is needed to properly plan land use for various projects and thus encourage the use of biophilic design as an innovative and effective way to improve the interaction of the population with the natural environment. At present, there are not many studies in Lithuania aimed at assessing the perspectives of biophilic design or how to practically reshape land areas in terms of biophilic design. The aim of this research is to investigate the possibilities of district land use in Lithuania based on biophilic design, problems and to provide relevant proposals for its implementation. Vilnius, Utena and Molėtai districts were studied. Mixed methods were used for the research: analysis of scientific literature and documents, quantitative research method and comparative method in summarizing and summarizing the results of the review of scientific literature and empirical research. The study revealed the advantage of Molėtai district in terms of biophilic design, together with the proposal to use the southern and southeastern lands of the district for recreational purposes.
