The article, based on archival materials and historiography, examines the situation of education in Lithuania during the Stalinist years. Focus is given to the development of the network of general education schools, the impact of social status on student attendance and learning outcomes, and the issues related to the operation of schools for ethnic minorities and the situation of teachers.
