Abstract

The transformation of food systems is one of the greatest challenges in responding to the challenges facing supply chains and rural economies in European countries. It is also one of the key elements of the European Green Deal and the associated Farm to Fork strategy.

The aim of this article is to present the results of a study identifying strategic areas of research and innovation that can contribute to a successful transition towards sustainable food systems.  The results of the work of an international team, representing Central-Eastern European Countries (CEECs) and the scientific and administrative sector, indicate the need for fundamental changes on the production side, supply chain, research infrastructure and on the side of society (consumers), the synergy of which will form the basis for the transformation of food systems towards sustainability.
