Santrauka

The network of operated inland waterways in Lithuania is being expanded, following the European Green Deal in developing an efficient, safe and environmentally friendly mode of transport. The waterway section from Kaunas to Rukla is a potential cargo transportation, therefore, this article analyzes the hydromorphological conditions of this section. Having the hydrological data series of the Jonava WMS (water measurement stations) and the river relief model SRM, the design water levels in the river section are calculated and modeled.

Hydrological calculations of the design water level and discharge of the Jonava VMS station were performed by two methods: empirically in an Excel spreadsheet and mathematically using the dedicated software HyfranPlus. The results obtained in both cases are compared with each other. Next, the hydrological boundary conditions are determined using the HEC-RAS software, and the design water level is calculated using the numerical method in the river section.

Hydrological calculations allowed us to determine the initial boundary conditions, which were used to create the hydrodynamic model. The results obtained show the lowest possible water level altitude values determined with a 95% probability for each kilometer of the Neris River between Kaunas and Rukla. These data are needed as a basis for assessing cargo shipping possibilities.
