Abstract

The article presents research on the efficiency of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds removal using AT series wastewater treatment plants manufactured by UAB August ir ko. Strict requirements for the removal of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds have been applied to wastewater treatment plants with a capacity of more than 5.0 m3/d. From 2019 November 1 the requirements for the removal of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds from wastewater also came into force for WWTP with capacity of less than 5.0 m3/d. For waste water treatment plants and the permissible instantaneous concentrations of total nitrogen and total phosphorus in the treated waste water shall not exceed: NTOT <25 mg / l, PTOT <5 mg / l. Amendments to the Wastewater Treatment Regulation have forced manufacturers of small (up to 5.0 m3/d) wastewater treatment plants to improve the technology of their plants in order to meet the requirements for nitrogen and phosphorus removal.

The main goal of the study is to determine the efficiency of biological nitrogen and phosphorus removal in VFL technology. To achieve this goal, 3 wastewater treatment plants of different capacities were investigated. Wastewater samples were taken from each test facility before and after treatment. Samples were tested in laboratories and contaminant concentrations were determined. The obtained results showed that the VFL wastewater treatment technology applied in wastewater treatment plants works efficiently and ensures high efficiency of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds treatment.
