CHANGES IN THE STRUCTURE OF COMMON BEECH FOREST AND THE DIVERSITY OF PLANT SPECIES IN 2010-2020 IN NORKAIČIAI FOREST DISTRICT

Abstract

Common beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) is not planted in many places in Lithuanian forests. A certain part was planted in the areas of Šilutė regional subdivision, Norkaičiai forest district. In 2010, study plots were established in common beech trees and surveys of stand erosion, undergrowth, trench cover and grasses were carried out. The studies were repeated in 2020 to assess changes in forest structure and plant species diversity over 10 years. Over 10 years, the average height of common beech increased by 2.2 m and its diameter by 3.2 cm. In the first plot the species composition of Ard I changed from 10Bu to 9Bu1P, in the second plot the composition of Ard II changed from 10Bu to 9Bu1E and in the third plot the composition of Ard II changed from 10Bu to 8Bu1L1K. 2. After 10 year common maple, the density of the small-leaved linden undergrowth was similar. There were no common oak and common spruce in 2010. Glade in 2010 made up of rowan and in 2020 no species found. 3. After 10 years, the most common species in the survey plots were common sorrel, common strawberry. In 2010, bank haircap was found in moss, which in 2020 were not detected.
