Abstract

In the fields of land management, real estate and cadastre, information gradually shifts from two-dimensional space (2D) to three-dimensional (3D): three-dimensional maps are created, building models are integrated into them, reality model information is constantly collected and supplemented, and digital twins are created. As the situation changes rapidly, it is important to monitor the ongoing processes, evaluate them and strive for the even development of technology and regulation. 7 three-dimensional maps of cities are analyzed in the work. 5 of them are maps of Lithuanian cities and 2 maps of European capitals. In the article, each map is discussed separately, its essential criteria and the method of data presentation are indicated. After that, a comparative table is made. The area displayed in the examined 3D maps ranges from 11 sq. m. km. up to 641 sq. m. km. The individual layers provide a wide variety of information. The number of layers in the analyzed maps ranged from 4 to 34. It is proposed to make 3D maps more suitable for city attractions, ongoing project competitions and accepted project proposals for publicity, and it is recommended to continue the development of 3D reality models for monitoring purposes.
