Abstract

Wear of soil tillage machine working elements is one of the main problems in agricultural machinery operation. Abrasive wear caused by hard mineral particles in the soil leads to intensive degradation of working surfaces, increases maintenance costs and reduces the efficiency of tillage processes. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of abrasive wear on the wear of tine cultivator chisels and to determine the effect of surface modification on their wear resistance. The research included laboratory tests according to the ASTM G65 method and field experiments carried out under real operating conditions using a Horsch Terrano 3FX tine cultivator. Three variants of chisels were investigated: original chisels and chisels reinforced by hardfacing using different texture patterns with “Danga 1” material. During the experiment, changes in chisel mass, length and thickness were measured and the wear behaviour of the working elements was analysed. Laboratory test results showed that different hardfacing coatings exhibit different resistance to abrasive wear. Field experiments revealed that surface modification technologies influence both the intensity and the character of chisel wear under real operating conditions. The results indicate that the effectiveness of reinforcement technologies depends on the properties of the applied coating and the abrasive characteristics of the soil.
