Abstract

This study is carried out to determine the effect of road surface on braking performance when using off-road tyres. This is relevant for vehicles used for forestry work during the wet season (spring and autumn), which is the period when vehicles need to have a higher level of traction. Braking tests were carried out using two different types of tyres on different road surfaces at different speeds. In order to know the characteristics of the ABS system and its performance under different conditions, braking tests were carried out with the ABS system on, off and in the OFF-Road ABS mode. The study is based on well-defined experimental principles in order to obtain objective and reliable results. The results of the study should contribute to a better understanding of how the road surface can affect the braking performance of vehicles, in particular when using tyres specifically designed for off-road use.
