IMPROVING WAREHOUSING PROCESSES AT MANUFACTURING COMPANIES

Abstract

This article analyzes the problem of inefficient warehouse operations, which manifests itself in disruptions to the processes of receiving and issuing inventory. These disruptions are particularly evident during peak periods, when waiting times increase, the volume of stock transfers rises, and the risk of inaccurate information grows. To achieve the research objective, an analysis of the scientific literature and a qualitative research method were applied—semi-structured interviews with five employees directly involved in warehousing activities (purchasing, logistics, warehouse operations, and planning). The research results revealed three main problem areas: first, there is no pre-planned schedule for customer and supplier arrivals, so the warehouse operates reactively and wastes time on re-planning; second, limited warehouse capacity increases product re-stocking and reduces throughput; third, data inaccuracies in the Odoo system hinder effective planning of warehousing, procurement, and production. Based on the study results, it was proposed to implement a time-slot solution for arrival registration and ramp management, increase warehouse capacity by utilizing the height of the premises — by raising racks from 3 to 5 levels, which would increase capacity from 219 to approximately 365 pallet spaces (+66.7%), and to strengthen data management controls by assigning a designated employee to ensure the accuracy of data in the Odoo system. The study’s results suggest that warehouse operational efficiency increases through the comprehensive optimization of material (raw materials and finished goods) flow management, by increasing warehouse operational capacity, and by ensuring accurate data in the information system.
