Types of Contributions, Languages and Length

Kaunas History Annals accepts only original texts that have not been published or submitted elsewhere. There are no publication charges.

Structure of an Article

1.       Title in Lithuanian and English.

2.       Name(s), affiliation(s), e-mail address(es) and ORCID iD(s) of the author(s) (submitted in a separate file so that the manuscript remains anonymous).

3.       Summary in Lithuanian (up to 800 characters): aim, sources, method and main results. It must be understandable without the article.

4.       Keywords in Lithuanian and English (4–6).

5.       Introduction: aim and objectives, object, historiography, sources, methods, novelty.

6.       Main text divided into sections with subheadings.

7.       Conclusions.

8.       List of sources and references.

9.       Summary in English (up to 3,000 characters): aim, sources, method, main results and conclusions. It must be understandable without the article.

Authors are responsible for the linguistic quality of their texts. The editorial office has Lithuanian- and English-language editors; authors writing in Polish or German are advised to have their texts edited before submission. The editorial office does not translate texts.

Preparation of the Text

–      Texts are submitted as .docx files in Times New Roman, 12 points, 1.5 line spacing; footnotes 10 points.

–      Peer review is double-blind, so the author's name must not appear in the manuscript or in the file properties; author details are submitted separately.

–      Quotations longer than three lines are set as separate paragraphs. Quotations in the original language are given with a translation into the language of the article, in the text or in a footnote.

–      If a text or summary was translated by someone other than the author, the translator's full name is given.

–      Artificial intelligence tools may not be listed as authors. If AI was used for preparing the text, for translation or for data analysis, this is stated at the end of the article. The author is responsible for the whole content.

Citations

References follow the Chicago Manual of Style notes and bibliography system. More examples: https://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide.html.

–      Sources in Cyrillic or other non-Latin scripts are transliterated into the Latin alphabet in the reference list (ISO 9 or Library of Congress system); the original form may be added in brackets.

–      Articles and books that have a DOI are cited with the DOI as a link (https://doi.org/…).

–      Online sources are cited with the date of access.

–      The list is placed at the end of the article and is not numbered. Archival sources come first, followed by published sources and literature; each part is arranged alphabetically.

–      Entries are sorted by the first author's surname or, if there is no author, by title. If a title begins with an article (a, an, the, der, die, das, el, il, la, le, etc.), the entry is sorted by the second word.

–      Entries longer than one line use a hanging indent.

–      The first author is given surname first (unlike in footnotes); other authors are given first name first.

–      Up to 10 authors are all listed; if there are more than 10, the first 7 are listed, followed by an ellipsis and et al.

–      Elements of an entry are separated by full stops (in footnotes, by commas).
