Aims and Scope

Kaunas History Annals (Kauno istorijos metraštis) is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal published by Vytautas Magnus University and devoted to the history of the city of Kaunas and its region and to comparative urban history research. Kaunas History Annals aims to stimulate research on the past of Kaunas and its region and to publish its results in the wider context of urban history research. To this end, the Editorial Board brings together historians, archaeologists, historians of urbanism, architecture and art, ethnologists, historians of language and specialists in other fields, and encourages interdisciplinary research. Kaunas History Annals also encourages early-career researchers and students of Vytautas Magnus University to undertake scholarly work.

Kaunas History Annals publishes original research articles, editions of historical sources with historical and archaeographic commentary, articles by early-career researchers (section “Seminar”), book reviews and annotations, and reports on the activities of institutions researching the history of Kaunas (section “Chronicle”). Where appropriate, the editorial office of Kaunas History Annals may decide to prepare thematic issues presenting the results of international conferences or research projects.

Kaunas History Annals has been published since 1998; 23 volumes had appeared by 2025.
