Abstract

The author analyzes whether Arvydas Šliogeris’ philosophy can illustrate Richard Rorty’s philosophically poeticized culture. He also raises the question of whether Šliogeris’ philosophical contradictions may be viewed as an intellectual irresponsibility, and what Rorty’s perspective on this would be. Much attention is given to Šliogeris’ poetic search for Being, considering how it fits in with Rorty’s philosophy. Many similarities are found between these two seemingly different thinkers, one of which is their anti-epistemological approach. Their views on poetic philosophical imagination also have common points. Both authors raise the question of objective truth, which is particularly important to justify why a philosophically poetic culture is needed and how this relates to the different roles of philosophy and the philosopher.
