USE OF GLASS WASTE IN CONCRETE PRODUCTION

Abstract

Large amounts of glass waste are generated worldwide, and not all of it is effectively recycled, which contributes to environmental pollution. One possible solution to this problem is the use of glass waste in concrete production, reducing the consumption of natural resources and promoting more sustainable construction materials. This study investigates the effect of crushed container glass and tempered glass on the physical and mechanical properties of concrete. In laboratory conditions, concrete specimens were prepared in which part of the fine aggregate was replaced with glass waste in different proportions. The density, compressive strength, and flexural strength of the specimens were determined after 28 days of curing. The results showed that the use of glass waste as a partial replacement for sand does not significantly affect the density of concrete specimens. It was also found that moderate amounts of glass waste can improve the mechanical properties of concrete, while higher amounts may reduce strength values. The study indicates that glass waste can be successfully used in concrete mixtures when optimal proportions are applied, contributing to the reduction of natural resource consumption and supporting more sustainable concrete production.
