THEORETICAL ASPECTS OF THE INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIVENESS OF THE EUROPEAN UNION'S WHEAT

Abstract

The article examines the classical and modern concept of competitiveness of Lithuanian and foreign scientists at the product level and presents the factors determining the international competitiveness of European Union wheat. The main factors determining competitiveness are discussed – production costs, productivity, trade policy, market structure and institutional environment. The aim of the article is to examine the concept of international competitiveness of European Union wheat, revealing the essential factors determining it. An analysis of scientific literature helped to understand the concept of international competitiveness of a product and to identify the factors determining the international competitiveness of European Union wheat. The study found that the main factors determining the international competitiveness of wheat are climatic conditions, innovation, productivity, institutional environment, market diversification, production methods, production costs, trade structure, and state or EU support that helps ensure the long-term economic stability of wheat growers and compensate for losses incurred due to external factors beyond their control.
