Abstract

Autonomous robotic lawn mowers are increasingly used for lawn maintenance; therefore, it is important to evaluate the durability and wear resistance of their cutting elements. The aim of this study was to evaluate the wear of blades from different manufacturers used in autonomous lawn mowers under real operating conditions. The study was carried out using two robotic lawn mowers “Husqvarna Automower 450X NERA”, which operated in two separate mowing areas. The experiment was conducted from July 14 to August 18, 2025, and was divided into five eight-day intervals, during which blades from five different manufacturers were used. Blade wear was evaluated based on mass loss and the wear intensity was calculated in mg/km according to the distance travelled by the robot. The results showed that blades from different manufacturers exhibited different resistance to wear. It was also determined that mechanical damage to the cutting edge can significantly increase blade wear. The obtained results indicate that the hardness of the blades have a significant influence on their operational durability.
