IMPROVING THE SUSTAINABILITY PERFORMANCE OF THE TRANSPORT SECTOR

Abstract

In a global environment, sustainability is becoming a relevant topic in many areas, and one of them is sustainable vehicles. This article describes importance of sustainable logistics application in transport companies. The aim of this paper is to discuss the need to increase the expression of sustainability in the freight transport sector, taking into account that increasing sustainability in this sector is not only an environmental but also an economic and social necessity. The article was prepared by applying a systematic analysis of scientific literature, methods of comparison and generalization. The problem of the study is to increase the expression of sustainability in the transport sector, which is important for reducing environmental pollution and promoting economic and social development. During the study, the significance of the application of sustainable transport logistics in the context of the EU and Lithuania was analyzed, and the necessity of the application of sustainable transport in companies in order to reduce environmental pollution was highlighted based on theoretical knowledge. The analysis shows that improving the sustainability performance of the transport sector is essential to reduce environmental pollution and promote economic and social development.
