THE INFLUENCE OF SOIL COMPACTION ON THE DRAINAGE SYSTEM
Keywords:compacted soil, drainage system, depth of soil compacted layer, soil compaction pressure.
The compacted layer of the soil affects the crop grown in agriculture. In the presence of a strongly compacted soil layer, the yield decreases. The formation of a compacted layer reduces water infiltration several times. in the spring and after heavy rainfall, the cultivated fields of the land become flooded.
In the territory of the municipality of Kaunas district, 10 objects were randomly selected to carry out tests on the compacted layer of the soil. Information was collected on the depth at which the compacted layer has formed, the thickness of the layer, measured soil moisture, determined granulometric composition, and existing land use. The collected data are analyzed by means of descriptive statistics and pairwise correlation.
After the analysis, the average depth of the formed compacted soil was determined - 15-34 cm. It was established that the compacted soil layer is at least 23 cm thick. After the pairwise correlation, a dependence was established, the lower the depth of compacted soil formed, the more compacted it is. Compacted soil affects the penetration of surface water into deeper layers where the drainage system is installed. In order to ensure suitable conditions for the cultivation of cultivated fields, it is necessary to loosen the compacted soil layer formed in the soil.
