Abstract

Biogas is one of the types of renewable energy resources. Biogas is produced using an anaerobic production process, where anaerobic microorganisms break down biomass and turn it into biogas. The production of biogas is quite a long process, because using straw raw material for biogas production, it is difficult for bacteria to break it down, which increases energy costs. Therefore, there is a goal to find ways to speed up this process. One such method is the pretreatment of raw materials in order to damage the surface layers of the raw materials, thus making them more accessible to bacteria. After examining the amount of biogas released from pre-treated raw materials under anaerobic biogas production conditions, it was found that acid or water treatment of raw materials facilitated the availability of fiber to anaerobic organisms. According to the obtained results, it can be stated that the pre-treatment with acid and water accelerates the production of biogas, but does not increase the biogas yield.
