Abstract

This article discusses Christian spirituality in the Eastern tradition as a personal journey toward union with God through prayer, asceticism, and inner growth. The essence of Eastern Christian spirituality lies in mystical experience, hesychasm, the Jesus Prayer, the pursuit of divine light, and theosis. It examines how modern technologies pose new challenges to spiritual life by distracting attention and overloading the mind, thereby hindering concentration in prayer. Nevertheless, technology used consciously can become a tool for spiritual formation, helping to spread the faith and structure spiritual practices. Eastern spirituality offers antidotes to the dangers posed by technology, such as inner silence, digital fasting, and iconography. While virtual religious communities and online retreats can provide opportunities for spiritual growth, they should not replace real church life or the sacraments. The individualism of postmodern society often challenges communal faith by emphasizing personal spirituality over traditional institutions. Yet Christian spirituality can serve as a moral compass in the technological age, helping people make responsible decisions. To maintain spiritual growth in the context of technology, it is essential to consciously set aside time for prayer, meditation, and the practice of traditional disciplines of faith. The responsible use of technology, combined with a living experience of faith, can help modern people discover a deeper connection with God.
