The Position of Left-Wing Parties of German Parliament Towards the European Union

Abstract


The importance of Germany in the European matters cannot be underrated
– it is the biggest economy in Europe and the most influential state in the European Union. Thus, it is important to understand the outlook of the main political actors in Germany as they influence the national policy of the state. This article concentrates on the two left-wing parties – Social Democratic Party of Germany and The Left – and tries to present the contrast between the perceptions of these two political parties towards the European Union. While Social Democratic Party of Germany has positive attitude towards this international organisations, the Left is highly critical about the EU and its role.
